Abstract :

The global market is becoming more and more quality conscious. To compete in such an environment, companies need to adopt efficient techniques that can assess and take a diagnostic approach to meet customer needs and expectations. Using different quality tools, it is possible to resolve quality related issues and achieve near to zero defect rates. Pareto analysis and Root cause analysis are quality tools that provide certainly a viable solution to quality problems and can help a company to achieve expected goal through proper implementation. The aim of this study is to minimize the defects that will reduce rework and rejection rate of a component in a foundry unit. Defect data has been collected for a period of six months and Pareto analysis is performed on them. Cause and effect diagram is employed for analyzing the major defects. Feasible solutions are provided to the problems and also implemented. The significance of the result obtained is also indicated.

Abstract :

Rolling element bearing is a most critical part of any rotating machinery. The machine could be unsafe if any fault occurs in the bearing elements due to fatigue, manufacturing errors and operating conditions. Due to sudden failure of bearing the machine may cause serious accident, economical loss and time. Therefore, it is necessary to predict the faults in bearing well in advance for preventive maintenance of machinery. The vibration based condition monitoring is most effective method for identifying fault in the bearing during its operation. In this paper a test rig has been designed and developed for vibration measurement of shaft-rolling bearing system. The development of test rig includes design and manufacturing of shaft, selection of support and test bearing along with suitable pedestal, selection of belt, pulley and motor. The vibrations data has been captured by accelerometer for test bearing in presence of normal and defective bearing outer raceway. The measured vibrations has been analysed in frequency domain to predict the fault characteristics. The vibrations generated by bearing depends on bearing geometry, load and shaft speed. It has been also study the effect of defect size, load and shaft speed on vibration response of healthy and defective bearing.

Abstract :

The paper shows the PQ theory of three phase Shunt Active Power Filter to improve the power quality of system which has non- linear loads. In this Hysteresis current control technique use to mitigate problems regarding non-linear loads. Gate pulses for the shunt active filter is generated using Hysteresis current controller using Hysteresis-band. This technique mostly used because implementation is simple and have fast current control. The Total Harmonic Distortion of Nonlinear load has decreased from 16.60 % to 3.24 %.so by using this technique power quality problem of system is reduced, mostly harmonic problems. The simulation done using PSCAD.

Abstract :

For any industry energy saving is the most common objective. For investment casting industry the fuel consumption in furnace is important. For the combustion, the heat is produced by burning a fossil fuel, usually natural gas. In order to improve the furnace’s energy efficiency, the exhaust gas from the furnaces is used to preheat the air used in the combustion process. This can be achieved by use of recuperator. By use of recuperator, combustion air is pre-heated to 320°C from 12°C, which results in fuel savings of 13.63%. In this study performance of existing circular tube arrangement is analysed and the different tube geometry performance is obtain and comparison will done for circular, elliptical and flat oval tube shape.

Abstract :

Energy and water are necessity of mankind that influences and sustainable development of any nation. Today, the production of fresh drinking water is a serious problem worldwide. Quantity of fresh water is very less which shows need of conversion of impure water into fresh water. For effective and economic conversion of impure water into pure water, such type of energy source required which is readily available in supreme amount. Distillation is a well-known thermal process for water purification and most importantly water desalination. There are many ways and techniques for solar distillation. This paper represents experimental results of passive solar stills with Al & SS 410 as a heat storage material. Both still have same basin dimension of 75 × 75 cm2. A comparison study between the still with material and without material was carried out to evaluate the distillation and effective parameters under the same climate conditions for different nine days with different height of water in still (1cm, 2cm and 3cm). Effect of material on distilled output was increased by 24 % and 29% with SS 410 &Al respectively during height of water in still is 1 cm. But when height of water is followed by 2 cm and 3 cm distilled output does not increase with scrap material. So, maximum productivity obtained with 1 cm height of water in still.

Abstract :

This air conditioning system works on vapor compression refrigeration system in which compressor runs by engine which uses PNG as direct source of energy. By introducing PNG based gas engine coupled with compressor in this system, we may eliminate use of electricity. The objective behind writing this paper is to compare benefits of Gas engine operated AC system with electricity based AC system with the help of one case study and develop economical and ecofriendly air conditioning system for sustainable development and energy conservation in our country. HVAC system comprise major percentage of the energy consumed by building in India. Hence, it becomes primary focus area for energy saving. Finally, the ultimate goal of this study is to study alternatives of electric air conditioning system on basis of electricity saving techniques.

Abstract :

The quality of friction stir welding is good when compared to other fusion welding technique. The main influence parameter in FSW is rotational speed, welding traversing speed and tilt angle of tool. AA7075 aluminium alloy has high strength to weight ratio. They have main application in the field of marine, aerospace and automobiles. As it is difficult to perform number of experiments to find out the level combinations which yield good mechanical properties like tensile strength, impact strength and hardness number, in our present study we performed the experimental analysis on Hyper work 14.0 software to analyse the effect of all FSW(Friction stir welding) parameter on weld joint. From the all outcomes of analysis we investigate the influence of all parameters on weld joint quality on basis of two output variable flow stress and top surface temperature of weld plate.
