Abstract :

A Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) is a self-configuring network of mobile nodes and is connected by wireless links. In MANET, cooperation of nodes for transmitting packets from source to destination cannot be assumed because of the nodes selfishness and misbehavior degrades the performance of the network makes difficult in finding the routes between the nodes. Cooperation among the nodes can enhance by providing incentives and malicious nodes can eliminate by neighborhood watch are the proposed solutions. A pricing approach which is based on an auction structure is used to obtain the least cost route and after finding the required route, the misbehaving nodes should be isolated, thus making it unattractive to deny cooperation. The proposed scheme is simulated using NS2 and the results show the improved performance.

Abstract :

Firefly algorithm has become one of the prominent population-based metaheuristics due to its efficiency in solving a wide range of real time problems. In this paper a Progressive Firefly Algorithm (PFA) to solve optimal reactive power problem is presented. In the present approach, some modifications on the firefly algorithm are presented to improve its performance. To improve its performance three basic modifications are proposed in the proposed work. These modifications consist of adding memory, adding newborn fireflies and proposing a new updating formula. The proposed PFA has been tested on standard IEEE 30 bus test system and simulation results show clearly the better performance of the proposed algorithm in reducing the real power loss.

Abstract :

Since long time researchers around the world concentrate on the alternative fuel for Diesel engine. Due to characteristics of renewable bio-based resource, Ethanol is an attractive alternative fuel. It is a thereby providing the potential to reduce particulate emissions in compression–ignition engines. In this review the specifications and properties of ethanol blended with diesel fuel are discussed. Major factors which are critical and affect to the potential commercial use of these blends are considered in this review. Also the effect of the blended fuel on emissions, engine’s durability and its performance is also considered. There are some adverse effects of ethanol while adding to diesel fuel like decreasing high heating value, cetane number, kinematic viscosity and aromatics fractions of ethanol blended diesel fuels and distillation temperatures goes changing. Use of ethanol blended diesel also required fuel tank modifications for maintaining vehicle safety. Further work is required in specifying acceptable fuel characteristics, confirming the long-term effects on engine durability, and ensuring safety in handling and storing ethanol–diesel blends.

Single feed Notch Loaded Slanted Double-Sided 1x2 Rectangular Microstrip Antenna for Dual-Band Operations has been simulated and fabricated. This antenna is developed on FR-4 substrate with dielectric constant ?r = 4.3 and thickness of 1.6 mm. Rectangular notch is incorporated at the radiating edge of the patch. 1x2 slanted rectangular patch array has been printed on both the sides of the substrate material and ground plane is separated by the air. Designed antenna is simulated on FDTD (Finite-difference time-domain) based software called CST (Computer Simulation Technology). Simulated results are obtained at 1.577 GHz and 1.765 GHz with the return loss of -21.989 dB and -28.084 dB respectively. Antenna gain on both the frequencies are 6.8 dBi and 6.1 dBi with bandwidth of 3.85% and 5.47% respectively. It has bi-directional radiation pattern along with 99.2% and 97.8% of efficiency. Co-axial probe feed is used which is the most likely used feeding method. After fabrication, antenna is being tested out and the measured results have a good match with the simulated one. The simple design and low cost leads to an easy fabrication and multi band operation makes it suitable for L – Band applications.

Abstract :

A widespread amount of study undergoing in the field of human - computer vision is associated to target detection & tracking. Segmentation and tracking of the moving targets in vibrant environment is a difficult task. In this paper, authors describe a structure for the detection and tracking of moving objects in outdoor\indoor atmosphere. The method consists of two steps: at first, author use a two frame subtraction method for target detection. Then, model performance is enhanced for true motion segmentation using morphological operations. The second step of the algorithm is object tracking framework based on Kalman filtering which works well in dynamic scenes. Experimental result shows that the algorithm gives up better performance as compared to the other methods of visual surveillance.

Abstract :

Single cell protein has been considered as a suitable protein source to enrich the human food and animal feed. Aspergillus fumigatus PTCC5009 growth in a batch submerged culture was studied in order to determine an optimal medium composition to achieve the highest biomass production. A fraction of the full factorial method was applied for experiment design and results analysis based on signal to noise ratio statistical index. Maximum cell dry weight of 18.22 g L-1 was obtained at optimal conditions using 0.6, 0.05, 0.5 and 50 g L-1 of ammonium sulfate, iron sulfate, glycine and glucose concentrations, respectively. Glucose (32.37% contribution) and ammonium sulfate (29.25% contribution) were determined as the most effective factors on fungal biomass production. However, glycine and iron sulfate concentration had significant roles in order equal to 22.78% and 15.6%. The most interaction was diagnosed between ammonium sulfate and glycine concentrations with interaction severity index of 50.03%. An acceptable consistency of 98.75% was observed between optimum theoretical cell dry weight determined by software (18.46 g L-1) and experimentally measured one at optimal condition. A high acceptable protein content of 40.7% in dry cell biomass at the optimal condition was obtained make Aspergillus fumigates a commercial potential strain.

Abstract :

Reliable manufacturing equipments in an industry are regarded as the major contributor to the profitability and performance of manufacturing firms in this competitive environment. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are playing vital role in enhancing manufacturing performance of large organizations because they are the suppliers for large organizations. Equipments of these SMEs must also be reliable because large organizations are always needed good quality product at low cost to compete in this competitive environment. Now-a-days, manufacturing organizations are adopting many improvement strategies to enhance their performance as TPM, TQM, Kaizen, etc. Kaizen or Continuous Improvement (CI), a pillar of TPM model, is a good concept for small continuous improvements. A number of small improvements are easier than a large improvement in an organization. Sometimes, major improvements take place over time as a result of a number of small improvements. In this paper, the authors have implemented one TPM strategy, i.e. Continuous Improvement in a medium size organization for enhancing manufacturing performance through PDCA approach. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the implementation of a continuous improvement strategy through over all Equipment effectiveness (OEE) enhancements. In this case study, the authors also have discussed and analyzed the implementation of CI initiatives in improving manufacturing performance through OEE enhancement. Moreover, the results of CI implementation are compared with previous data and show the improvements.
